Non-Standard Studio

Craftsman and former physicist Marcus Jacka, founded Non-Standard to “create innovative contemporary designs that are handcrafted, using traditional methods.”

Marcus personally creates each piece in Non-Standard’s workshop which is set in an inspiringly beautiful valley on the edge of the North York Moors. Every Non-Standard item is brought to life from individually sourced wood, imbued with the unique characteristics of both wood and craftsman. “There is a purity of geometry and spare lightness to Non-Standard designs, distinguishably balanced, simultaneously contemporary and quietly timeless.”

Non-Standard Studio’s extraordinarily fine technical and artistic craftsmanship and original designs have an established national and international client base. In addition to Non-Standard design pieces, Marcus works closely with like-minded architects, interior designers and artists creating bespoke and responsive designs for both private and public spaces. Non-Standard’s wide ranging collaborations, past and present, include Waldo Works, The Duncombe Park Estate, Lutyens Furniture & Lighting, Berdoulat Interior Design, artist Mark Hearld and St. Judes, and in the US, work for Garde and artist Jeff Koons.
